SC 3 - User manual

1.FIRST STEPS

Congratulations on your purchase of the ELITE model SC 3.

Read this guide before you start.

The ELITE model SC 3 can sharpen a lot of different type of teeth shape allowing the independent adjustments of the feed pitch, grinding wheel working depth and the entry/exit speed. It has up to 5 cams that allow different tooth profiles to be created.

The SC 3 is adequated for sharpening of straight, spaced and curved tooth in band saws from 10 up to 60 mm wide (0,4" to 2-1/4")

This manual introduces you to the main functions of the grinder in order to avoid risks to your health or that may cause a breakdown or premature wear of the machine.

In case of any doubt, please contact us or one of our authorized distributors.

Informative Note: The use described in the manual of this band saw sharpening machine described therein may present some variations in use as our machinery is subject to possible construction modifications, depending on the incorporation of technological advances in our sharpening equipment.

4.1.Instructions for unpacking and setting up

Take special care when lifting the load: The load may not be centered!

To lift or move the load, use a forklift with blades long enough to support the machine, taking into account the width and depth of the machine for the calculation of the weights to lift.

To unpack, first remove the front panel. Remove the wooden blocking pieces or the fixing screws on the feet of the machine.
SC2%20anclaje%20palet

Once the machine is moved to its final working destination, you must fix the machine to the floor by means of the 4 screws placed in the machine base stand.
If this is not done, there is a high risk to dump the machine and to cause serious injuries to the personnel and machine itself.

Once the machine is in its final location, you can also remove the protective film and other protections from the components, which secure and prevent the machine from moving.

5.INSTALLATION

5.1.Machine placement

Before any work make sure that the machine is well aligned and does not oscillate at any of its ends, in which case it must be wedged to avoid movements. For its correct level it is necessary to use a leveling tool. This check must be carried out both longitudinally and transversally.
nivel-de-burbuja

Poorly leveling the machine can cause unwanted vibrations and premature wear of the linear guides.

peligro

WARNING: The machine must not be used under any circumstances by unqualified or unauthorized personnel.

The machine must be positioned into a right space considering a working area of minimum 1 meter arount it.

The operator during operation should place in front of the machine maintaining a safe distance that prevent the achievement of dangerous areas with upper and lower limbs.

The area in which the machine will be placed must have a degree of light enough to carry out the activities of work and maintainance

5.2.Electrical connection

peligro-tension.webp

HIGH VOLTAGE DANGER!

The electrical connection of the machine must be carried out by qualified technical personnel only at the voltage indicated on the machine order/machine identification plate. If you have any questions about the voltage, consult the manufacturer before making the connection.

Any claim for incorrect connection will be out of warranty.

The machine is equipped with a CE plug and must be connected to the voltage at which it was ordered: this information is written on the label on the back of the machine.

Note:

Remember: Before connecting the machine, remove any guards the machine may have to protect components during transport.

6.STARTING UP

In this section we show you to operate the SC 3 in order to work.

SC 3 operation

6.1.Instruccions

1.Check the teeth shape: triangular, rounded small or rounded big;

2.Check the hook angle and set it on the machine

3.Choose the right cam:

  • n° 1 - triangular;
  • n° 2 - rounded small;
  • n° 3 - rounded big;

4.Measure the pitch and set it on the machine;

5.Set the phase based on the shape of the teeth. The phase modifies the dimensions of the throat and the back;

6.Insert the band saw and make sure the throat is outside the jaw by 2mm;

7.Adjust the feed claw

8.Start sharpening:

  • Speed from 1 to 2 (very slow);
  • Using the depth knob, insert the grinding wheel into the profile;
  • Set the amount of material to be sharpened;
  • Using the tooth height adjustment knob adjust the sharpening load on the throat and back of the tooth;

6.2. Hook angle setting

  1. Hook angle index
  2. Hook angle knob

6.3 .Cam setting

Cam change

Turn the knob and remove the presure of grinding unit.

Push back this knob: unscrew the screw move the bearing onto the right cam

6.4. Pitch setting

  1. Screw the knob and push down the tooth-pusher carriage.
  2. The bearing must be free.

  1. Unscrew the grain to permit the pitch regulation
  2. Screw or unscrew the screw and set the pitch. Read the pitch on the scale

When the pitch is set, screw again the grain to block the regulation. Unscrew the service knob and get the bearing in touch with carriage of pawl.

6.5. Phase setting

Unscrew the phase screw adjustment: T for triangular and small round profile; W for large round tooth

)

6.6. Inserting the band saw

Put the saw in the machine and turn the bolt

The throat of the saw should be outside the jaw by approximately 2 mm.

Adjust the tooth pusher and set the sharpening stone pressure.

Insert the saw and attach the plastic wheels

7. WORK OPERATION

Screw the knob and start with the grinder totally out
SC3.16

Switch on the grinder. Set the speed from 1 to 2
SC3.15
SC3.17

Adjust the movement of the tooth pusher. Put the sharpener inside the tooth using this bolt. Check whether the trajectory of the grinding wheel is like the shape of the tooth. If yes, OK. If not, follow the information in the next section to set the correct sharpening path of the sharpener.

7.1. Analysis of adjustment

The shape can be changed by means of the CAM

8.MAINTENANCE

8.1.Preventive maintenance

Maintenance of the ELITE model SC 3 sharpeners is very simple but at the same time important.

The lifespan of a single machine largely depends on its lubrication, so these instructions must be strictly followed. Lubricants from open containers cannot be used, because a small particle or chip is enough to destroy the bearings.

If the machine is not used for several days, clean and oil the polished parts to prevent rust.

Keeping the machine clean and in good condition will allow for optimal long-term use.

Use the equipment only in dry environments. The temperature must be between 5 and 40ºC. A relative humidity greater than 90%, as well as a saline environment, would cause premature corrosion of the machine.

9.ACCESSORIES AND CONSUMABLES

9.1.Grinding wheels

We recommend using the corundum wheel ref. nr. 5211-A. S ø150x6xø20 mm. or the borazón grinding wheel ref. nr. 5420-A

9.2.Coolant agents

We recommend to use ELITE SintoCut PRO MIX or equivalent in the machines equipped with coolant system.

10.WARRANTY

All our machines are tested before being shipped. However, there can always be defects that are not observable at first sight.

Our machines are guaranteed against manufacturing or material defects under normal use and maintenance conditions.
The period of this guarantee is 12 months from the date of purchase and consists of the replacement of defective material.

The guarantee will be automatically canceled in the event of a modification outside our company. Or in manifest cases of misuse of the machine.

The guarantee does not include parts subject to normal wear due to use such as skids, lubrication cartridge, abrasives, etc.
